Alex Kneen brings a life of quiet wisdom and genuine faith to her new collection of poems, Chasing Shadows, Dancing with Light. For any collection, no one can expect that every poem will be deeply evocative or will become a lifelong favorite. Here, however, there are at least one or two poems for everyone, due to the breadth of topics and perspectives covered and Kneen’s sharp powers of observation and description.
The poems are divided into sections, walking diligently through the brilliance, desire, and despair of human experience. The foils found in the title are woven within and across the poems. They reveal more brightly the truth that Kneen is offering to her audience: our veiled and penumbrous humanity is constantly shot through with clarifying streaks of God’s grace.
